The
Vice President of Communications leverages communications expertise, business acumen and interpersonal skills to design and deliver internal communication programs that are integrated with the business strategies and objectives for Optum Health. This position leads a team that advances Optum Health business priorities through communications campaigns including executive (CEO) communications, employee engagement, Optum Health priorities message platform/narrative development, and editorial strategy. This position is part of the Optum Health communications team and leads a team of communications professionals. This role reports to the head of communications for Optum Health.

Primary Responsibilities
- Create and implement communications programs that drive Optum Health employee engagement and business results by clearly prioritizing messaging and inspiring employees to contribute their best toward our mission - to help people live healthier lives
- Develop and manage relationships and effectively interact with a range of stakeholders, including the CEO and other senior executives, to create and execute internal communications plans that advance business priorities
- Research and develop signature voice and communications channel for Optum Health CEO
- Lead the team that drives employee engagement and culture development in partnership with the Optum Health people team and line of business leaders
- Leads the team that architects the content and tone for Optum Health all-employee town halls
- Manage, coach and develop a team of internal communicators to the aligned business segments and geographies
- Lead the team that oversees the communications strategy and execution for M&A activity
- Partner closely with Optum Health senior people team partners on projects related to organizational structure, change management and employee engagement in the ongoing development and articulation of key company story lines and messages that will resonate and strengthen Optum Health connection with employees
- Participate actively in shared services and broader Optum and UHG Corporate Communications department meetings in addition to key meetings including investor conference, Quality initiatives and other cross-enterprise business initiatives
- Align and govern communications across business segments and internal communications to ensure consistency of best practices and appropriate customization
- Serve as thought leader in aligning communications strategy with corporate mission and goals
- Lead our approach to two-way internal feedback channels, leveraging internal media as appropriate
- Build relationships with key stakeholders as needed and support internal peers’ relationships with their respective stakeholders
- Embody and promote UHG corporate values and ethics and demonstrate exemplary organizational skills and attention to detail

Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of communications experience within a matrix organization
- Internal communications experience
- 5+ years of people management and leadership experience
- Experience working with and consulting senior executives
- 10 years of project management experience
- Integrated communications experience
- 10 years of professional writing and editing experience
- Experience translating technical and scientific information into layman's terms
Preferred Qualifications
- Combination of corporate and agency communications experience

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
