As Vice President Engineering - Utilization Management (UM) and Care Management (CM), you will provide the vision, strategic direction, and overall leadership of technology and systems in the UM and CM domain. In alignment with our core clinical strategy, you will provide strategic leadership, overseeing the integration and optimization of technology systems to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of UM and CM processes, leading to improved patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
You will be an accomplished enterprise leader who has a proven record of leveraging innovation, consumer needs, and business insights to help drive business transformation. You will leverage clinical thought leadership and technology expertise to deliver technology that provides differentiated value to our customers, improves affordability of care, and helps evolve the healthcare ecosystem through the eyes of the consumer.

Primary Responsibilities
In alignment with the enterprise clinical strategy, you will influence and work collaboratively to:
- Develop, communicate, and implement vision and strategy across UM and CM, in support of an integrated, innovative, cost-effective technology suite
- Lead customer engagement and relationship management with key stakeholders, drive decisions that align clinical, business, and technology strategies/plans and enable value. Coordinate funding and implementation of key initiatives. Collaborate to identify benefits and drive ROI
- Identify opportunities for strategic investments and innovative technologies that will drive business improvements and overall growth
- Establish and lead global, diverse technology delivery and support teams. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment. Develop talent, create high employee experience, support career growth and mobility, and promote a diverse and inclusive culture
- Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of technology, establishing multi-year roadmaps for UM and CM for UHC and Optum, ensuring optimal utilization of enterprise platforms and capabilities, and on-time delivery of products and services and reliable operations. Regularly identify and address opportunities that improve capabilities and reduce costs
- Partner with and guide cross-functional teams across the clinical platforms to ensure successful delivery of solutions from concept through launch and successful support
- Identify and assess innovative technologies and applications to determine potential value; promote technology strategies that enhance the organization's performance and competitive advantage
- Ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of technology solutions
- Establish/maintain effective IT vendor relationships; collaborate to effectively develop, deploy, and support high-quality technology services and contract staffing
- Support business acquisitions by providing leadership in the due-diligence evaluation of IT platforms and post-acquisition integration planning. Integrate acquisitions with appropriate support and speed
- Partner with Optum Insight on commercialization opportunities, strategies, roadmaps and investments

Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience
- 15+ years of experience building and leading engineering platforms with demonstrated history of delivery and execution
- Demonstrated success building and delivering on a cohesive technology vision, strategy, and roadmaps
- Demonstrated success leveraging technology to meet business objectives
- History of effective working relationships with cSuite leaders and key business partners to drive change agendas
- Demonstrated strategic thinking abilities and an enterprise-wide perspective
- Experience leading through influence in a large, matrixed, global environment
- Proven track record of success building scalable solutions that support consumer experiences
- Broad technology experience, including complex systems integration and infrastructure expertise
- History of executing with excellence: setting purposeful goals and achieving them through intelligent actions, which balance competing priorities without losing momentum behind execution
- Demonstrated leadership style which fosters accountability, transparent communication and innovation
- Demonstrated high level of emotional intelligence
- Proven outstanding collaboration, influencing, problem solving and negotiation skills
- Proven ability to sell ideas to people outside of your direct team members
- Demonstrated innovative orientation and customer first mindset
- Experience leading global technology teams (through other leaders) of 250+ people
- Healthcare experience with domain expertise with working knowledge of the Utilization Management and Care Management disciplines
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or Master’s degree in relevant field
- Experience delivering AI tools into production environments at scale
- Public cloud platform knowledge

Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. residents is $275,000 to $350,000 per year. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
