As a Data Scientist 2 in OptumCare’s Advanced Analytics team, you will perform critical research and data analytics that measure the value of OptumCare’ s programs and drive program effectiveness. Your role will include developing study methods, analyzing complex data with statistical and visual techniques, building predictive models, and interpreting and presenting findings. You’ll work closely with business leaders and other researchers on the team to develop innovative analytic solutions to help Optum fulfill its mission.

Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and apply retrospective statistical methods to evaluate healthcare products and programs targeting medical expense reductions including but not limited to emergent events, in-home care, post-acute care, and transitional care.
- Develop study methods, analyze complex data with statistical and visual techniques, and interpret and present findings
- Develop data queries and extracts necessary for population health data science initiatives
- Perform predictive modeling, clustering, or other data science methods to help healthcare programs identify and improve key clinical measures
- Conduct propensity to succeed analyses using data science methods to identify key factors to increase program engagement and financial success
- Interpret and analyze clinical data including insurance claims, electronic medical records, and various other data sources

Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in health care analytics using large medical claims data sets
- 2+ years of experience writing SQL queries with intermediate level proficiency
- 2+ years of experience using statistical methods in data science modeling or in statistical studies (linear regression, logistic regression, predictive modeling, cluster analysis, retrospective models, etc.)
- 2+ years of experience in R; experience with Python, SAS, or similar statistical programs
Preferred Qualifications
- Medicaid, Medicare, or commercial health insurance experience
- Experience translating analytic results into expected financial returns
- Experience developing, interpreting and presenting analytics results to stakeholders
- Proficiency working with MS Excel including formulas, calculations, charts, graphs, etc.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
