The Senior Director, Star Ratings plays a critical role in overseeing the delivery and execution of high-complexity, multi-workstream engagements as well as successfully building new business through existing and new-to-the organization clients. The Senior Director serves as the engagement executive with overall responsibility for quality of delivery, client relationship development, and overall project efficiency. The client base is primarily comprised of Medicare Advantage plans that desire to improve or ensure retention of a 4+ CMS Star rating. The Senior Director is also an important member of the Quality and Risk Adjustment practice’s leadership team, with responsibility to contribute to overall practice development needs, growth strategy, and positive to team culture. The Senior Director must have a proven track record in driving strong improvements in health plan performance on the Medicare Star Ratings; improvement success needs to be inclusive of meaningful improvements on the member survey (CAHPS® and HOS) measures.
Primary Responsibilities
- Overall engagement executive across high-complexity, multi-workstream engagements.
- Ability to accurately diagnose the drivers of lower than desired Star rating performance and determine the appropriate solutions that will lead the client to deliver 4+ Star rating performance
- Build consensus among client stakeholders who play a critical role in the client’s ability to successfully implement the identified solutions
- Industry expert in CMS Star Ratings for Medicare Advantage plans
- Industry expert in improving member experience as measured by CAHPS
- Principal point of relationship and escalation for client executives
- Accountable for overall engagement execution including: quality of output, client satisfaction (Net Promoter Score), and profitability
- Provides executive oversight of project economics and directs team to follow practices needed to ensure both quality and profitability
- Provide subject matter expertise to other Optum Advisory Services and Optum Company business units as it relates to Medicare Advantage Star Ratings
- Communicate effectively and accurately in writing and verbally to prospects, clients, and other team members
- Demonstrate strong relationship management skills and ability to handle challenging interpersonal situations
- Responsible for new business development efforts inclusive of: Star Rating Improvement sales to new clients, existing clients
- Lead development of intellectual capital and thought leadership collateral

Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in healthcare
- 5+ years of experience supporting a Payer
- 5+ year record of improving Star Rating performance for Medicare Advantage contracts
- 3+ years of experience improving health plan performance on member experience as measured by CAHPS
- 3+ years of experience working directly with C-level executives
- 2+ years of strategic sales experience
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite - Word, PowerPoint, Excel
- Willingness to travel domestically, up to 20%

- Experience and highly proficient in managing projects that achieved budget and timeline goals
- Experienced mentoring and developing team members
- Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable.
