What you will be doing:
The Product Planning Specialist assists the Service Line and will be primarily responsible for helping to direct and work with a multidisciplinary team having responsibility for evaluating all products including commodity items as well as associated capital equipment. The Product Planning Specialist provides inputs into the sourcing process and strategy and executes the process on multiple low to medium complexity categories. Responsibilities will also include evaluation of suppliers, work in bid software, interaction with committee members, slide development, presentations to committee members. This position participates and contributes to performance improvement initiatives and special projects, is focused on leadership and development, and is exposed to various experiential activities that will broaden the individual’s experience and perspective.
Key Responsibilities
Product Planning Core/Project Management – 60%
- Sources low to medium complexity product categories
- Masters complete sourcing cycle
- Assists in the creation of RFIs
- Communicates with suppliers
- Creates PowerPoint presentations that provide succinct and informational messages
- Validates the completeness of suppliers’ product and pricing files
- Assists in the development of award recommendations
- Completes ad hoc reports related to supplier activities
- Assist product planners in administrative duties (filing, organization, creating packets, and planning of member facing meetings)
- Mine data to identify contract growth opportunities
- Accountable to meet product evaluation timelines for packet completion based on our bid calendar for the service line
- Develop and monitor project work plans and resolve day-to-day issues in the categories that they are managing.
- Monitors progress of assigned tasks in product category workplan
- Identifies and informs management of deviations from product category workplan and timeline and updates systems to reflect status accordingly
- Identifies and communicates resource needs on a timely basis to the appropriate level
- Ensures accuracy and completeness of own work
- Identifies critical issues for risk management with clients and informs management of these critical issues
- Participates in sourcing meetings to ensure a seamless integration throughout the sourcing process
- Perform cross-referencing of products and or create scenarios for capital equipment for supplier-to-supplier comparisons
- Create portfolio recommendations, content and present to committees
Process Improvement – 10%
- Participates in performance improvement projects
- Participates in quality, and capacity initiatives
Learning and Development – 10%
- Mentee to Product Planning Manager
- Works toward certification of Professional in Supply Management or other area of interest
- Demonstrates thought leadership
- Actively seeks opportunities to become familiar with the sourcing strategy, to increase knowledge of sourcing terminology and depth of product knowledge
- Completes required curriculum work
- Demonstrates integrity, innovation, accountability, and ownership in work
- Demonstrates intellectual curiosity, self-motivation, and positive thinking
Special Projects – 10%
- Successful completion of low to medium complexity Supply Chain Services Projects that broaden knowledge and skillsets to include Executive Summaries on potential new suppliers
- Research market intelligence and current market dynamics pertaining to contract categories and provides market intel data for priority contract categories.
- Evaluates special project assignments for efficiency opportunities
- Participates in performance improvement, capacity planning, and teamwork activities
Experiential Activities – 10%
- Successful completion of low to medium complexity Supply Chain Services Projects that broaden knowledge and skillsets to include Executive Summaries on potential new suppliers
- Exposed to multiple Service Lines and gains experience in sourcing multiple product categories
- Experience and exposure to various Supply Chain Services teams and business units
- Manages site visits with suppliers
Required Qualifications
Work Experience:
Years of Applicable Experience - 2 or more years
Education:
High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Premier’s compensation philosophy is to ensure that compensation is reasonable, equitable, and competitive in order to attract and retain talented and highly skilled employees. Premier’s internal salary range for this role is $51,000 - $95,000. Final salary is dependent upon several market factors including, but not limited to, departmental budgets, internal equity, education, unique skills/experience, and geographic location. Premier utilizes a wide-range salary structure to allow base salary flexibility within our ranges.
