This role is central to the transformation of Optum Health (OH) to a consumer-focused business centered on the experience of unique population segments and curated services to support their whole health needs. As part of the Strategic Initiatives Group (SIG), the role is focused on enabling a whole health model across OH that delivers value (financial, strategic and reputational) and growth through the seamless and efficient delivery of whole health medical care, behavioral health, home care, multimodal communications, advocacy support services, care coordination, financial health, and other contextual supports. In addition, this role is focused on providing thought partnership to BU's and regions on well thought-out strategies to meet their business goals
The Director of Strategic Business Development will work across the SIG and the broader Optum Health team to source, lead, and manage strategy projects, perform analyses to justify investment, develop business cases, and help prioritize SIG's portfolio of work.

Primary Responsibilities
- Set vision and strategy for grey space businesses and cross-BU growth opportunities after socializing and incorporating feedback from relevant stakeholders
- Own investment case for new businesses/opportunities and secure funding.
- Oversee research and analysis of market dynamics, competitive landscape, and evolving customer needs
- Evaluate and pressure test concepts and roadmaps for new business opportunities across time
- Manage business financial projections and capital budgeting efforts
- Champion the ‘objectives and key result’ (OKR) processes and support cross-functional teams by assisting in the establishment of definitions, measurements and tracking for key strategic and innovation initiatives to measure success
- Partner with the Strategic Initiative Design team to solidify theories of financial, strategic and reputational value for strategic initiatives and how they align to OH business unit focus areas
- Develop a network across the enterprise to influence and align key stakeholders toward a shared vision
- Manage and develop team and support onboarding new department staff

Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of relevant functional experience
- 5+ years of experience in the healthcare industry
- Experience in developing growth strategies for organization(s), particularly around new business opportunities
- Experience in partnership with finance to create pro forma profit & loss statements for business opportunities
- Experience conducting cost-benefit analyses for proposed investments
- Experience conducting root-cause analysis
- Experience with structured, solution-focused problem solving and thinking through problems creatively
- Experience working in a team environment, as well as independently and autonomously
- Experience working with customers and key stakeholders in a consultative role - comfort engaging senior level people in back-and-forth conversation, ability to be convincing when necessary, and ability to develop solid relationships through each interaction
- Experience managing and leading teams
- Successful track record of developing detailed business cases for new initiatives that receive organizational support
- Willingness to take risks and act decisively regarding new business opportunities

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
