In this role, the Metrology & Analytical Services Lab Manager will manage all metrology, physical/functional testing, and material analysis activities and work flow through the Analytical Services Lab as well as provide plant support for measurement systems and testing.
Responsibilities
- Manage lab technicians, quality engineers and materials analysts in daily execution of testing and reporting for internal and external customers
- Ensure all personnel are capable and adequately trained
- Assign test requests and projects to lab technicians, engineers and analysts
- Manage test requests and project backlog
- Prioritize execution of test requests and projects based on customer need and strategic priorities using SharePoint database
- Ensure high-quality, error-free data is presented to requesters and customers in support of data-driven decision making
- Work closely with Product Development, plant quality and Sales teams to ensure customer testing needs are met, provide trouble-shooting support and ensure accurate results are reported
- Arrange 3rd party laboratory testing as appropriate
- Investigate and evaluate new measurement systems and technologies for metrological, analytical, or physical testing to improve accuracy, precision, and efficiency of test results
- Ensure validation activities of measurement systems and test results meets industry standards for statistical significance and advise as necessary to ensure proper measurement systems are utilized
- Provide guidance to plants on purchasing, programming and utilizing up-to-date measurement devices suitable for the lab and test needs
- Coordinate activities for plants to ensure equipment and programming standardization for new measurement and test system
- Provide training as needed on new measurement systems’ capabilities, statistics, testing method, and laboratory capabilities
- Accountable for the Analytical Lab yearly budget
- Report monthly metrics to management
- Serve as backup to Quality Engineers and Material Analysts
- Ensure the safety of lab personnel and visitors at all times
Qualifications
Bachelors degree, CQE or equivalent Quality experience preferred Strong organizational skills with proven ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously Working knowledge of C-Pro, Six Sigma, Excel, Minitab, and O365 software suite Excellent verbal and written communication skills Prior people management experience Experience in laboratory management and/or continuous improvement preferred Travel as needed
