The Data Engineer for the Life Science DevOps Team, supports Life Sciences operations, product builds, data delivery and platform maintenance activities.
You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage AWS Cloud infrastructure using Terraform and CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins
- Design, build and test RedShift/EMR code and underlying AWS infrastructure to support ETL (extract-transform-load) processing in our CI/CD pipeline
- Monitor performance and take corrective action to improve results and reconcile discrepancies between the expectations of the business and the structure of the data
- Collaborate with analytics’ and other teams to determine how current processing methods can be optimized, scaled, and improved
- Provide informed feedback for database design and data model decisions
- Support monthly/weekly data warehouse build process
- Provide code review
- Document technical design, test plans and other elements
- Be a good team player and comfortable working in a very collaborative team environment

Years of post-high school education, in a discipline related to Computer Science, can be substituted/is equivalent to years of experience
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of professional work experience in data engineering role
- 2+ years of practical experience with AWS cloud operations
- 2+ years of experience writing SQL
- 2+ years of experience with Spark (Python and/or Scala)
- 2+ years of experience with software development tools and technologies (git, Jenkins, agile development)
- 1+ years of experience in setting up and managing Terraform code to build and modify AWS Cloud infrastructure
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS certification
- Experience with AWS S3 (Bucket policies, Life Cycle policies), IAM, Redshift, EMR, Lambda functions, Step functions, EC2, EBS Volumes, Networking etc.
- Healthcare/life science experience

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
