Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The Director, Operations Technology and Process Automation will lead the B. Braun Central Technical Services Operations Technology and Process Automation teams providing technical support to all operations in the United States and the Dominican Republic (BBM-US). The Director will be responsible for developing and implementing the operations technology and automation strategy throughout BBM-US Operations. They will provide technical leadership to strategic capital projects and will offer knowledge-based services to the BBM-US network related to operations technology and process automation platforms and design. The position requires subject matter expertise in operations technology and manufacturing automation platforms, and their effective utilization for executing manufacturing processes and optimizing operational efficiency.
The individual in this role will partner with peers in Project Management, Central Technical Services, along with site Engineering, Operations, Maintenance and Quality personnel to identify and deploy effective and efficient process technology solutions. The role will include development of Technical Standards for operations technology and process automation within the B. Braun Center of Excellence (CoE), which will establish standard practices for the manufacturing sites. The individual will be responsible for translating standards and practices into site solutions that enable sites to achieve operational goals.
Responsibilities: Essential Duties
- Lead the B. Braun Operations Technology and Process Automation teams within the Central Technical Services organization. This will include recruitment, training, development, and performance management of departmental personnel.
- Develop and implement operations technology and process automation strategies and platforms for BBM-US in collaboration with the broader international B. Braun operations technology and process automation teams.
- Provide technical leadership for strategic capital projects and offer knowledge-based services to the BBM-US network related to technology design, implementation, and operation.
- Provide subject matter expertise in operations technology and manufacturing automation platforms, and their effective utilization for optimizing production efficiency.
- Partner with project teams, peers in Central Technical Services Management, along with site Engineering, Operations, Maintenance and Quality personnel to identify and deploy effective and efficient technology solutions.
- Develop technical standards for operations technology and process automation within the CoE, which will establish standard practices for BBM-US operations.
- Translate standards and practices into site solutions that enable sites to achieve operational goals.
- Manage contracts with third party technical resources to provide operations technology and automation services as required by BBM-US operations.
- Lead department to achieve established KPI’s and deliver expenses at or below annual budget.
- Execute projects on-time and at or below budget.

Expertise: Knowledge & Skills
- Requires breadth of professional pharmaceutical and medical device industry knowledge. Ability to integrate critical information and champion advanced strategies/concepts/platforms through the BBM-US organization.
- Drives development of advanced technologies, principles, and processes.
- Manages activities of a functional area which has at least 2 departments or major functions through managers and/or experienced employees. Responsible for cost, method, and employee results.
- Judgement is required in resolving complex problems based on experience.
- Interacts with internal and/or external clients and customers to negotiate and interpret information on projects and unit operations. May consult with senior management.
- Capability to manage multiple technical vendors to support on-going operations and capital projects.
The targeted range for this role takes into account a range of factors that are considered when making compensation and hiring decisions; included but not limited to: skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The range provided is a reasonable estimate.
Target Based Range
$170,000 - $205,000
Qualifications
Expertise: Qualifications - Experience/Training/Education/Etc
Required:
- Bachelor's degree
- 10-15 years related experience, plus a minimum of 5 years management experience required.
- Frequent business travel required, Valid driver's license and passport
- Operations Technology Infrastructure implementation and operation experience.
- GXP computer system and equipment validation and qualification expertise.
- Minimum of 5 years management experience required.
- Extensive project management experience and capability.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with superiors, peers, direct reports, and vendors.
- Frequent business travel required
- Valid driver's license and passport.
Desired:
- Master's degree preferred.
- Applicable industry/professional certification.
- MES (Korber, Critical Manufacturing, Pharma Suite, OpCenter) implementation and operation experience.
- SCADA (AVEVA Wonderware) and Historian (AVEVA PI) implementation and operation expertise.
- PCS (Rockwell Plant PAx, Siemens S7) capabilities.
- Manufacturing automation hardware (Rockwell, Siemens) installation and operation experience.
- Manufacturing line control and integration expertise.
- Plant information systems/OEE reporting (OSI PI, Power BI, AWS, Ignition) experience and expertise.
- Smart technology (IOT, Digital Twin, Advanced Analytics) implementation experience.
- PCS cyber security systems implementation experience.
- GXP laboratory technology implementation and operation experience.
