We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join our cross-disciplined team building the next generation of Healthcare Patient Relationship Management features!
Within our Patient Experience sub-division, we offer patients seamless access to their health records through our innovative athenaPatient mobile application and accessible web-based patient portal. We break down barriers by connecting patients to their providers through cutting-edge telehealth solutions. Additionally, with your help we will revolutionize the way healthcare providers engage their patients through AI enhanced communication methods.
The Team
Join our newly formed Patient Relationship Management software development team and be a key contributor in building a greenfield next generation capability for our healthcare providers and their patients. Our team is built to ensure our products meet the needs of our customers and are comprised of talented frontend and backend software developers, an embedded Product Owner, and an Experience Designer. We prioritize industry best practices such as continuous delivery and iterative agile methodologies to ensure the timely delivery of quality functionality. Operating in two-week Agile sprints, we quickly roll out features to a subset of our customers for feedback as they mature.
What do we look for?
A software developer who demonstrates design and engineering excellence and has experience building web applications, preferably in public and private cloud environments. You are an excellent communicator and nimble learner who loves collaborating with teammates to build software that solves complex healthcare technology challenges.
You will play a crucial role in writing and delivering functionality that constantly enhances the experiences of millions of patients. Your work will have a direct impact on real people in their time of need, making a meaningful difference in their lives.
In this role, you will develop and support backends supporting highly performant and scalable APIs for our user interfaces. Collaboration is key, and you will work closely within our team to ensure our products meet the needs of our customers.

Job Responsibilities
- Contribute to a high-availability enterprise service supporting all sizes of health care provider organizations
- Write, debug, and deploy code to production; deliver timely fixes
- Collaborate inclusively with a cross-functional Agile team consisting of Engineers, a Scrum Master, a Product Owner, and an Experience Designer
- Adhere to DoD (story definition of done) as part of the sprint, including unit tests, functional testing, code reviews, bug fixes, documentation, and coding best practices.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of software engineering experience with enterprise server development
- OR 1+ years of software engineering with a master’s degree in a STEM-related field
- Web application development experience with focus on the backend
- Experience with Java and relational database/SQL or No SQL DB
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science related field
- Experience in 3rd party service integration
- Knowledge and/or experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies
- Experience with deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using Jenkins along with git, bitbucket, etc.
- Familiarity with cloud hosting infrastructure such as AWS
