Title: SVP BD Excellence
Reports to: EVP & President, Life Sciences Segment
Location: Franklin Lakes, NJ
Hybrid: 4 days a week in office (when not traveling for business)
Travel: Up to 50% with domestic and international travel
Overview
Reporting to the EVP & President, Life Sciences Segment, the SVP BD Excellence has the responsibility for developing and implementing BD Excellence across all of BD. This individual will manage a team of BD Excellence content experts in the areas of commercial, innovation, operations, business process, and training to deliver best-in-class programs, training, and hands-on coaching. This individual must have deep expertise in the concepts of lean fundamentals across business functions with years of experience in a proven Business System. BD is on a multi-year journey to becomes a leader in process excellence. This individual will tackle the unique opportunity of setting the groundwork for years of success and in doing so unlocking new levels of customer and associate satisfaction that provides the fuel for internal investment and shareholder returns.
Primary Responsibilities And Duties
- Work with BD leadership, HR leadership, BU Presidents, and other key executives to develop an organizational structure, and recruit top talent to drive BD Excellence across the enterprise.
- Lead a team of lean practitioners in the development of lean and process excellence tools across commercial, innovation, operations, and business process.
- Own the development of a best-in-class training program that incorporates in person classroom training, in person real world training, and virtual training (on par with a virtual University). Training will include a certified practitioner program and multi levels of BD Excellence certification, from 101 level to 301 level.
- Own the communication of BD Excellence and the change transformation across all of BD. Individual must be an excellent communicator who can clearly articulate the vision of where BD Excellence is going to go and why it is critical to BD’s long-term success.
- Be a talent champion who can attract, hire and develop world class talent who will build a rock-solid foundation for BD Excellence and drive years of continuous growth in capability and in turn results.
- Exhibit the skills of a true Senior Leader who knows how to manage through influence, dive deep when necessary, drive business results, and coach.
- Serve as the voice of BD Excellence to senior leadership, including BD’s CEO and Board Members.
- For Key projects that truly move the needle, take a hands-on approach on driving BD excellence results, including Kaizen and Visual Management.
- Utilizes year of experience in the deployment of best-in-class tools (Kaizen, VM/DM, Problem Solving, etc.) to drive revenue, OMX and GP improvement.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and teacher of BD Excellence for all levels of associates. Individual must not only be highly comfortable with the tools but also be able to teach the tools in a compelling and clear manner.
- Drive a kaizen culture, fostering a continuous improvement mindset that is grounded on sustainable results.
- Lead the deployment of BD excellence worldwide, taking into account cultural nuances to ensure adoption and sustainment.
Scope of Responsibility
- Sphere of Influence: Nature of the role requires the ability to influence peers, management team members, and subordinates to enhance cross-business collaboration and drive change initiatives.
- Examples of internal (BD) contacts: Executive Leadership Team (BD CEO and direct reports), BU Presidents, Segment Presidents, Central Marketing and Commercial Excellence teams, Innovation and R&D teams, ISC organization, Sales, marketing, Pricing and regional commercial organizations working in all parts of the company.
- Examples of external (outside of BD) contacts: Customers, Channels, and commercial partners like IDNs
KSA Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)
- Advanced and in-depth knowledge of Process and Lean techniques that are deployed in a commercial and manufacturing setting. At least 10 years of experience working in an organization with a proven business system with deep knowledge of the fundamentals of lean (Kaizen, Visual Management, Daily Management, Problem Solving, etc.)
- 5+ years in a Global Senior Leadership position with multiple direct reports
- Commercial experience ideally in a Sales Operations or effectiveness role
- Operations experience leading or working closely in plants and across procurement and supply chain
- Significant experience in the Product Development and launch process. Working closely with R&D, Product Management, Marketing and Sales to drive on time and under budget product development and achievement of financial targets.
- Proven progress of promotion within an organization
- Experience working with Salesforce.com (funnel management, dashboards, and Marketing automation tools (Marketo, Eloqua, Pardot)
- Experience working development / implementation or improving a commercial fly wheel grounded in the use of SFDC and funnel management
- Experience utilizing tools such as Power BI, Einstein, etc… to visualize sales and Master data
- Significant experience in the art of Problem Solving, Visual Management, Kaizen and KPI development
- Strong leadership - demonstrated ability to effectively motivate teams, hire exceptional talent, making timely hiring and firing decisions, and drive influence across a matrix organization.
- Ability to put together concise communication (PPTX, Email) and present to senior leadership in a professional and direct manner
- Entrepreneurial Mindset. Proven ability to drive new programs and initiatives with limited direction
- Proven track record of Learning Agility. Taking on new projects and roles and demonstrating success within an accelerated time frame
- Education / Degree: BS degree required; MBA preferred
- Knowledge of regulatory framework for Medical Devices, federal, state, or local mandates including, but not limited to, FDA, OSHA, EPA, SFDA, etc. preferred
Desired Skills/Experience
- Experience as an individual seller and a sales manager
- Global experience, living abroad a plus
- Technical degree in Engineering or the Sciences
- GM experience, truly owning aspects of a P&L
- Experience in Med Tech / Life Science / Diagnostic Industry
- Experience with the Shingijutsu group in Kaizens
