Your Role at Baxter
Baxter offers a robust summer internship program based in the Chicagoland area that provides meaningful work assignments and projects that immerse students in Baxter’s culture designed to provide practical work experience highlighting what an individual would do in a similar full-time role with the ability to make a business impact. You'll be paired with a mentor, receive support from your manager, and have access to the entire Baxter employee community to ensure your success.
As a member of our Exploratory development team, you will support the exploration and preliminary development of novel concepts and new features so that we may evaluate their viability and potential for integration into future products. This Exploratory work forms the foundation of our product pipeline.
You may also support operational (i.e. not product development) tasks such as competitor benchmarking, technology landscaping and IP and literature searches so that we may remain abreast of new trends and opportunities in the medical device industry.
What you'll be doing
- Support the development of various infusion pump control algorithms by receiving inputs from other Engineers and then implement those algorithms in C++ or Python.
- Conduct searches for intellectual property (IP), clinical whitepapers and emerging technologies.
- Execute laboratory tests per the test procedure, document findings and report back to the team.
- Understand the clinical and technical risks associated with infusion therapy and propose novel ways to manage those risks and improve the quality of patient care.
What you'll bring
Baxter is targeting students with proven academic performance and product development potential. Ideal candidates will combine technical and business knowledge with analytical strength and creative problem-solving abilities.
- Rising Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, or related field.
- Experience with C++ and Python (or equivalent) and object-oriented analysis (OOA).
- Experience with Linux, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is preferred.
- Able to read, understand and execute basic test instructions in a laboratory setting using a high-precision digital balance.
- Clear, accurate and concise communication in both written and verbal form.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability.
- Adaptable and able to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
