Your Role at Baxter
Baxter offers a robust summer internship program based in the Chicagoland area that provides meaningful work assignments and projects that immerse students in Baxter’s culture designed to provide practical work experience highlighting what an individual would do in a similar full-time role with the ability to make a business impact. You'll be paired with a mentor, receive support from your manager, and have access to the entire Baxter employee community to ensure your success.
As a leader in medical products and therapies, Baxter continues to leverage our expertise in Material Science to expand and evolve our product portfolio. Baxter is looking for an intern in this space, specifically as it relates to: polymer & drug compatibility, polymer chemistry, polymer physics, polymer rheology, polymer adhesion, polymer/rubber formulation, polymer coating, polymer processing or polymer characterization.
By continuing to explore new and innovative materials and techniques Baxter not only ensures state of the art product performance for our regulated medical products, but also our safety and sustainability goals.
What You'll be doing:
- You will work alongside our Material Scientists and Engineers, supporting laboratory activities in one or all of the following material characterization tools: thermal, mechanical, microscopy, optical, rheological, various chemistry analytical (such as HPLC, GCMS, etc.) to solve materials engineering challenges.
- Support Material/Polymer Science Innovation for regulated medical products.
- Laboratory testing using various material characterization tools.
- Method innovation, validation and qualification.
- Provide weekly updates outlining progress.
Requirements:
Baxter is targeting students with proven academic performance and leadership potential. Ideal candidates will combine technical and business knowledge with analytical strength and creative problem-solving abilities.
- Rising Junior, Senior or Graduate student pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or related major.
- GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Technical writing and data review in a regulated type environment preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and problem-solving skills.
- Positive attitude, team-oriented, adaptive to change, and collaborative.
- Actively involved in campus or community activities and organizations, preferably in leadership roles.
