Your Role at Baxter
Baxter offers a robust summer internship program based in the Chicagoland area that provides meaningful work assignments and projects that immerse students in Baxter’s culture designed to provide practical work experience highlighting what an individual would do in a similar full-time role with the ability to make a business impact. You'll be paired with a mentor, receive support from your manager, and have access to the entire Baxter employee community to ensure your success.
A real-world Systems Engineering project that will directly impact an on-market infusion pump or related product – specifics to be determined based on the issue(s)/features being addressed at the time of the internship.
What You'll be doing
The project may include some or all of the following responsibilities:
- Develops, modifies, and approves design documentation, specifications, and drawings.
- Implements data acquisition and analysis techniques to characterize design performance.
- Defines appropriate test methods to verify designs meet their performance requirements.
- Executes protocols and testing required to validate the safety and effectiveness of the design(s).
- Ensures successful integration of electrical, mechanical, and software elements of the system.
- Define system requirements and specifications based on customer or user requirements.
- Contribute to the implementation and test of system level features while interfacing with a cross-functional team.
- Assist risk management activities including Failure Mode Effects and Analysis (FMEA) and Safety Assurance Case (SAC) to ensure safety and effectiveness of designs.
What You'll Bring
Baxter is targeting students with proven academic performance and leadership potential. Ideal candidates will combine technical and business knowledge with analytical strength and creative problem-solving abilities.
- Rising Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering or related degree
- Desire to work in a Systems Engineering environment which could include tasks ranging from requirement development to verification efforts, risk, labeling and beyond
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and problem-solving skills
- Positive attitude, team-oriented, adaptive to change, and collaborative
- Actively involved in campus or community activities and organizations, preferably in leadership roles

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all our employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. To that end, this position has a pay rate of $26.00 an hour.
