Job Summary
The
Senior Manager, Maintenance & Reliability Engineer is responsible for providing operational and technical support to the Reliability Excellence program across Charles River. The individual will provide reliability excellence support in their assigned region and manage issues, escalations, and determine resolutions. Working closely as part of a multi-functional team, the Senior Manager will utilize their skills and experience to maximize the performance of our facilities and equipment.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and support world class practices as it relates to Reliability Excellence, across all assigned sites in North America or Europe (depending on location).
- Foster a culture of Reliability Excellence through developing and training our site teams in the use of tools and techniques.
- Support the delivery of a structured & methodical program of reliability excellence across the region.
- Support the creation and maintenance of the Charles River Labs Reliability Excellence toolbox
- Lead the implementation of new technology and ways of working to predict component failure and optimize maintenance strategies.
- Support, coach, and develop our engineering teams to achieve excellent asset performance.
- Use data to target improvement areas and report on key performance indicators.
- Keep up to date with industry trends and new technologies to seek opportunities to improve asset reliability.
- Facilitate and lead root cause analysis investigations to eliminate failures using industry-recognized methods.
- Develops engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations, which may include capacity, quality, cost, or regulatory compliance issues, by applying data analysis techniques (statistical process control, reliability modeling and prediction, fault tree analysis, Six Sigma (6σ) methodology, etc.), root cause analysis (RCA) and failure mode effect analysis (FMEA)..
- Optimize equipment maintenance strategies based on risk (e.g., PM, PdM, Part availability, TPM, OAC, OEM support)..
- Develop, maintain, and update essential guidance on maintenance and reliability documentation (e.g., SOP, Preventive Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance, Condition based maintenance, KPIs) for critical equipment.
- Help to develop future functionality of our CMMS system in conjunction with CMMS administration team and site operation teams.
- Identifies chronic equipment deficiencies and PM gaps through “Bad Actor” analysis and reporting.
- Manage a robust life cycle asset management program for critical assets across our facilities and lab equipment portfolio
- Support the capital improvement process for new equipment installations and upgrades by ensuring design-for-reliability and design-for-maintainability concerns are incorporated.
- Provide reliability maintenance input to Project Engineering Design and equipment selection through the application of Life Cycle Costing..
- Actively participate and provide input and feedback for the Charles River Safety Program to meet Health and Safety regulations and OSHA requirements dependent on regional requirements.
- Comply with requirements from Charles River Safety Program including Health and Safety regulations and OSHA requirements dependent on regional requirements.
- Participate and provide support for audits.
Job Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering or related discipline.
- Experience: 5+ years of proven experience in an equivalent or related position with knowledge of reliability improvement techniques, problem solving and maintenance strategies and 2-5 years of experience working in a cGXP environment.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
- Desirable Certification/Licensure: Certified Reliability Engineer, or equivalent years of exp in the field.
- Other:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate well in both oral and written reports.
- Able to speak French strongly preferred.
- Excellent collaboration, and persuasion skills with the ability to lead teams of individuals who have diverse backgrounds and opinions.
- Ability to interact professionally and comfortably with Senior Leadership. Proficient in CMMS (Maximo an advantage), BMS, project scheduling, Power BI, MS Office Suite
Compensation Data
The pay range for this position is $100K -140K USD annually. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
