The design assurance team supports Zebra’s promise of quality to our customers and is responsible for ensuring products meet specifications throughout program phases from concept, to development and to final product.
This is a Hybrid position and you will be required to be in the Lincolnshire, IL office a minimum of 3 days a week.
Responsibilities:
Working as part of a design team, provides all Design Assurance deliverables required in the development process at each phase, including:
- Evaluation of the materials, properties and techniques used in production of Zebra’s devices or solutions
- Advising design engineering on the selection, application and test of mechanical and/or electronic components, optical/machine vision or autonomous systems and solutions.
- Recommending design or test methods and statistical process control procedures for achieving required levels of product reliability
- Determining reliability requirements of components and systems to achieve company, customer and any governmental agency reliability objectives
- Using statistical methods to design reliability and verification test plans
- Participate in creation and analysis of qualification test plans and results
- Creating and analyzing designed experiments to determine main effects of low complexity device sub-systems to improve designs
- Using hypothesis testing and other statistical methods to assess the significance of test results
- Actively reviewing, understand and applying the Market Requirements Document and Engineering Specifications to quantify metrics and acceptance thresholds
- Responsible for Quality and Reliability sub-team activties to support the initiatives of the core development team, program manager or product line management deliverables
- Leading Project Scoping and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) efforts
- Communicates proactively with the project team and other stakeholders about progress against reliability analysis and results. Uses experience and knowledge to proactively identify risks to the project and contribute beyond personal scope of deliverables.
- Contributes to overall project leadership.
This role typically focuses on a subset of products and devices in Zebra’s portfolio. Typically supports multiple derivative and/or platform New Product or Sustaining projects simultaneously. Supports department intiatives related to product quality and reliability.
Makes recommendations for changes in the selection and application of components and systems to drive improved reliability, working directly with the design team.
Demonstrates working knowledge in design for quality tasks, design FMEA, inspection fixture and measurement systems, MVT build qualification and correction action of results to appropriate core team discipline lead.
Actively participate in program Risk Assessment and mitigation activities.
Assist project team in understanding technical issues and suggest testing or other approaches to determining root cause and corrective action.
Acts independently to apply knowledge to resolve novel issues or concerns about design approach and conformance to standards.
Analyze and approve Engineering changes to production products.
Contributes to innovation efforts by participating actively in brainstorming activities and actively benchmarking externally with other organizations on best practices in design assurance.
Provides product qualification or reliability test leadership over the life-cycle of the product to support cost saving initiatives, end of life part requalifications, second source requalifications or critical design improvements due to field performance or customer escalations
May participate in special projects as a representative of the DAE team or support process improvement activities within the broader function.

Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field (Mechanical, Electrical, Reliability) or equivalent STEM, (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) based degree.
Minimum Work Experience (years):
- 1 or more Years in STEM related academic or equivalent work background
Key Skills and Competencies:
- Familiarity, skill, and problem solving ability on personal computer based systems
- Familiarity, working knowledge of spreadsheet and statistical software programs
- Statistical methods and basic problem solving analysis tools and techniques
- Awareness of ISO9001 and internal audit techniques
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Detailed and numbers oriented
Licenses/Certifications, special qualifications:
- Technology familiarity or experience with one or more of the following areas or products and services: Consumer or Industrial Electronics, Industry Automation, Artificial Intelligence, Machine vision/learning, Software Cloud Solutions and Services or System Networks a plus.
- Industry certifications, basic problem solving skills, Six Sigma Green belt or ASQ CQE/CQM certification a plus.
- Some Familiarity with programming and automation tools (PowerBI, Visual Basic, MS Office PowerApp and Power Automate) a plus

Salary: USD 58500.00 - USD 87700.00 Yearly
Salary offered will vary depending on your location, job-related skills, knowledge, and experience.
