The Advisory Director, Transformation Consulting plays a critical role in overseeing the delivery of consulting services within a highly complex, long-term Optum-health system enterprise partnership. The role will be responsible for managing the relationship with c-suite and other senior executives at this partner health system to identify, scope, and deliver advisory projects designed to drive critical growth, strategic, and operational outcomes for the partner organization. The role will serve as the primary Transformation pillar executive with overall responsibility for roadmap development, quality of delivery against that roadmap, senior-level relationship development, participation in partnership governance, and pillar economics. The Advisory Director will also be a member of the Strategy & Transformation practice’s team, and as appropriate with the partnership pillar lead responsibilities, will contribute to the Practice’s market presence and growth outside of the assigned partnership, positively impact team culture, and take on direct reporting and mentorship relationships.
The preferred location for this role is in the Western Kentucky area or adjacent region with remote options. If not located in the area, travel to and from will be required on a 50% basis.
Primary Responsibilities - Strategy and transformation generalist able to represent Optum across multiple domains (e.g., enterprise strategy, value-based care, population health, consumer, digital, revenue diversification, partnerships)
- Partnership pillar lead:
- Pillar executive for high-complexity, multi-workstream enterprise partnership, collaborating closely with partner and Optum stakeholders to effectively support achievement of the partner’s strategic, financial, and operational priorities of the enterprise
- Identify strategic needs, develop roadmaps to realize identified opportunities, and articulate the value proposition for key stakeholders within the partnership
- Cultivate relationships and trust with senior partner stakeholders
- Principal point of relationship and escalation for partner executives
- Accountable for overall pillar execution including quality of output, client satisfaction (Net Promoter Score), and profitability
- Driving accountability for effective program / project execution
- Identifying, scoping, and cultivating opportunities with partner across various domains
- Ability to navigate across and connect with other Optum Advisory practices and Optum/UnitedHealth Group Company business units
- Facilitate integrated planning and delivery across workstreams, including supporting identification and management of cross-program / project interdependencies
- Develop understanding of the partner’s operational and technology challenges and facilitates access to appropriate Optum solution / resources
- Oversee administration of a dynamic pool of Optum resources to address the partner’s business needs
- Serve as a key Optum representative by effectively building, managing, and maintaining relationships with health system partner executives and key stakeholders
- Serve as a brand ambassador for Optum’s full suite of products and services to meet partner needs
- As appropriate in conjunction with the partnership pillar lead responsibilities, support the Strategy and Transformation Practice growth and execution:
- Participate in and/or lead new business development efforts inclusive of advisory sales to new and existing clients and sales of other Optum services and capabilities to new or existing clients
- Manage client relationships to facilitate successful delivery and identify new opportunities
- Serve as overall engagement executive across high-complexity, multi-workstream engagements and able to accurately diagnose the issues the client has identified (as well as underlying issues) and determine the appropriate solutions that will lead the client to create and realize their strategic direction
- Build consensus among client stakeholders who play a critical role in the client’s ability to successfully implement the identified solutions
- Accountable for overall engagement execution including quality of output, client satisfaction (Net Promoter Score), and profitability
- Provide executive oversight of project economics and directs team to follow practices needed to ensure both quality and profitability
- Communicate effectively and accurately in writing and verbally to external and internal constituents
- Demonstrate solid relationship management skills and ability to handle challenging interpersonal situations
- Lead development of intellectual capital and thought leadership collateral

Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in management consulting (Big 3/Big 4/Big 6/Boutique) or comparable role within a healthcare organization
- 5+ years of experience leading strategy and/or large-scale transformation work
- 4+ years of experience to lead and motivate cross-functional teams
- Experience working in and successfully navigating a matrixed environment
- Established track record of leading complex programs / projects and / or enterprise transformations on time and on budget
- Proven extensive knowledge of program / project management and change manage / communications principles, methodologies, techniques and tools and
- Proven advanced understanding of health systems / provider organizations
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite - Word, PowerPoint, Excel
- Proven executive presence and exceptional communication skills - written and verbal
- Proven solid leadership skills and ability to lead small and large teams to generate a vision, establish direction, create an atmosphere of trust, leverage diverse views, and encourage improvement and innovation
- Ability to be a team player and work with and through others and to work independently with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated familiarity with variety of problem-solving approaches and frameworks
- Demonstrated ability to drill down to the root cause of issues and be creative in problem solving
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively at all levels in an organization and influence without authority
- Ability to travel domestically, up to 50%, most frequently to Western Kentucky / Southern Indiana if not located in the area
Preferred Qualifications
- Experienced engagement leadership and client relationship management
- Experience in healthcare consulting
- Experience mentoring and developing team members
- Demonstrated track record selling advisory services

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
