We are seeking a AI/ML Engineer who is passionate about solving challenging problems. In this role, you will be an essential part of our AI team, focusing on translating ambiguous and complex business challenges into well-defined problem formulations. You will lead efforts in research, development and deployment of cutting-edge AI/ML solutions, utilizing technologies such as NLP, deep learning models and LLMs.
You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.
Primary Responsibilities
- Use AI/ML technologies to innovate current Optum products. The tasks of innovation include, but are not limited to: intelligent document processing, clinical coding, clinical decision support, and other healthcare-related use cases
- Work closely with business partners and scientists to understand the business requirements and build solutions that meet business expectations
- Willing to work in an agile and fast-moving environment
- Passion for learning new technologies and applying them to current and future business problems

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in computer science, computer engineering, math/statistics, electrical engineering, or other hardcore technical fields with profound mathematical training
- 2+ years of experience with Python, SQL/NoSQL, JavaScript, and other scripting languages
- 2+ years of experience with model deployment using containerization and building the AI service through synchronized and asynchronous web services (APIs)
- 1+ years of experience with a version control tool, such as GitHub
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Generative AI
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or other public clouds
- Experience with deep learning tools, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and others
- Knowledge of cloud security, networking, and other DevOps-related tasks
Soft Skills
- Ability to complete the project with guidance from Sr. tech leaders
- Ability to communicate in a clear and effective manner

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
